Join us for a two part series with Jessica (Jessy) Wollen from Shift Education. Jessy will focus on: boundaries, consistency, and teamwork—anchoring educators in a unified, practical approach to supporting ages 7–18 as they navigate healthy sexual development. This two part workshop will cover the following:
1. Developmental Expectations

  • Understand what is typical vs. concerning from late childhood through adolescence, including curiosity, boundary-testing, and online exposure.
  •  Support youth who appear physically older or younger than peers, recognizing how this affects vulnerability, safety, and social expectations.

2. Boundaries & Consent

  • Teach clear public vs. private boundaries and coach appropriate touch, language, and peer interactions.
  • Intervene with calm, predictable responses when boundaries are crossed, using consistent language across staff teams.

3. Media & Safety

  • Address the impact of social media, gaming, and pornography exposure on behaviour and understanding of relationships.
  • Redirect unsafe or inappropriate behaviours without shame, reinforcing dignity and clarity.

4. Working With Families

  • Use straightforward, developmentally grounded language to communicate concerns and guide next steps.
  • Support families to reinforce boundaries and, when relevant, advocate for sexual health goals in IEPs or learning plans.
  • Youth need safe places and spaces to practice health behaviours. All people make mistakes.

5. Team Consistency

  • Use staff dialogue, shared reflection, and scenario-based discussion to establish unified expectations and responses.
  • Prioritize predictable, team-aligned practices so youth receive steady guidance across classrooms, programs, and interactions.

Session Overview

Session 1: Foundations (January 29, 10:30 AM – 12:00 Noon)

A clear overview of developmental norms, boundary-setting, and safety. Staff will examine initial scenarios and identify areas where consistent team approaches are needed. A brief survey follows to collect real questions and situations.

Session 2: Application & Team Practice (February 12, 10:30 AM – 12:00 Noon)

A scenario-driven session based on staff submissions. Participants will work together to refine shared responses, clarify boundaries, and practice educator language that supports safety, dignity, and confidence.

Key Outcomes

  • Stronger consistency in responding to sexual behaviours and boundary violations.

  • Clear, calm language for guiding children and youth.

  • Greater confidence in team-wide approaches to safety and communication.

  • Improved collaboration with families after incidents or concerns.
