Greater Vancouver Business Leadership Network

What is the GVBLN Program?

The major barriers for persons with disabilities securing employment, are social acceptance, stereotyping, and fears among employers of hiring these individuals. The Greater Vancouver Business Leadership Network (GVBLN) is a program of the BC Centre For Ability, which works to enhance the employability of persons with disabilities. In B.C. 530,130 (14%) persons have disabilities. 68% of women and 59% of men with disabilities are not employed. Employment barriers not only create significant economic cost to the community; they undermine the emotional well being of individuals with disabilities. The GVBLN partners with various community partners and businesses to enhance employment opportunities for a wide cross section of persons with varying abilities, ranging from entry level, to technical to the executive level.

Who Do We Serve?

By working to bridge the gap between potential employers and a vast pool of job-ready and qualified prospective employees with disabilities, the services of the GVBLN help to enhance the quality of life of people with disabilities, while helping business achieve their goals. Benefits to Individuals:

  1. Increased opportunity for employment
  2. Access to current employment opportunities through job databank, with the ability to apply for jobs online
  3. Individuals can post their resumes online in the GVBLN databank, which employers can access when searching for candidates.
  4. Direct exposure to a substantial group of businesses who are seeking qualified individuals with disabilities
  5. Valuable networking opportunities within the business community

Benefits to Business:  The GVBLN will help you locate and attract a highly skilled pool of applicants with disabilities to meet your employment needs. We also provide your business with an access to a central body that networks with over 80 community based agencies to supply job information and support to both potential employers and employees.

Funding for the Program

The GVBLN Program is funded in whole or part through the Canada-British Columbia Labour Market Development Agreement.
